THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES
I often reflect that humans have a lot of strong and moving emotions, but the strongest and most motivating emotion of them all is FEAR.
We fear loss, we fear pain and we definitely fear the unknown in life.
Fear of harm: We lie for self-protection, we protect ourselves from mental and physical pain, which can lead to deception of others and self-deception in the long term.
Fear of conflict: in most of our social interactions, we mostly try to find common grounds between us and the people we're interacting with. When a conflict arises, there's always the risk of raising anger, judgment (which we can't handle easily), and social elimination (which we fear because we don't want to be alone)
Fear of punishment: this is your inner child relating punishment to suffering, more than paying social debt and complying to justice.
Fear of rejection: Our insecurities are the main fuel of our human desires, like the desire of belonging, we want to remain popular in our groups, and we boast about our values and personality to be more admirable, we "amplify" the truths of our stories to make our lives more interesting.
Fear of loss: Greed is the foundation of this motive, we fear to lose our beloved ones for an act they don’t excuse (such as cheating or not making them a priority), we fear losing money so we lie about our wealth to our suppliers, and most interestingly we even lie to ourselves to prevent loss of morale.
Fear of the hurt of others: The noblest kind of lies, how often do we "flatter" someone just to make them feel better? How often did you think your friend made a bad choice of clothing, but you gave a compliment, just because there's no going back on this decision? You're such a nice liar.
We lie because it makes life easier and because everyone understands why you had to lie, because everyone lies on a daily basis, it became socially acceptable to make reality an illusion… and that's the truth about lies.
